Since my "students" are adults (teachers engaged in professional development), I'm having some difficulty coming up with uses for photosharing in that context. I'm pretty sure that their parents don't want to see pictures of them in their classes.....
There are times where we have the opportunity to do extended PD over a longer period of time. In these instances, I can envision using photo sharing to help build a sense of community and shared experience. This summer, we are doing a 3-day workshop for teachers involved in the Groundswell project that will involve field trips with an environmental focus. Taking and sharing pictures of the teachers doing field work would provide them with a resource for their classrooms. It would be great for their students to see them as learners as well as teachers!
If anyone has any other ideas how photo sharing would be valuable to them in a professional development setting, please let me know.

One of the things that I help teachers use with photo sharing in the classroom is for them to set up a group page in Flickr or Picasa Web Albums. FOr a given project (usually science related) we turn the kids loose with a few digital cameras and have them take descriptive photos of the subject matter being covered.
ReplyDeleteWe have them upload the pictures and then the students pick out the ones that best represent the thing they need to learn.
Going a bit further, we can use some of the photos and then label them using other picture editing software.
These pictures become a resource for the kids - one which they can take some ownership of versus looking at something in a book.
Thanks for the input. So, for professional development, the corollary would be to turn the teachers lose with a few digital cameras and let them take descriptive pictures of our field work that they could share using Picassa or other photo sharing site?
